Momentum
is an implementation of Reconnecting
Youth, a science-based high school student support and life skills
program. It
is provided as a semester-long class that is integrated into
students' regular course of study. The program is designed to enhance students' self-esteem, decision making, personal control, and interpersonal communication. Reconnecting Youth is listed in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices, and is a National Dropout Prevention Center/Network 'Model' Program.
media empowerment program
The Media Empowerment Program is a comprehensive media education course available to high school students. The curriculum covers media studies and filmmaking. Participants are empowered to become critical thinkers and creative producers of a wide range of messages using image, language and sound. Topics explored in the program include the power of media, the representation of culture in media, marketing and advertising. The course culminates with students developing and creating powerful short films using digital video technology.
advanced media program
Mpower provides ongoing activities and support for advanced students who have completed one year of the Media Empowerment Program. Advanced students develop and produce independent video projects.
consultation and training
Mpower is available to provide youth advocacy, positive youth development, and media education consultation and training services.
